The London Song Festival is a registered charity number 1120046
The London Song Festival was founded in 2007 by the pianist Nigel Foster. It is dedicated to promoting the song repertoire, which continues to be under-valued and unappreciated in the world of vocal music that is so inevitably dominated by opera.
The 2009 London Song Festival will be devoted to Lieder, the heart and soul of the song repertoire. The anniversaries of Mendelssohn, Haydn and Louis Spohr will be marked, and there will be a concert exploring the music of three sisters and spouses; Clara Schumann, Fanny Mendelssohn and Alma Mahler. Details to follow...
The inaugural Festival in 2007 was dedicated to The Mediterranean, exploring music from and inspired by Italy, Spain and Greece. The 2008 Festival was devoted to English and Russian song; a stellar line-up of singers including Sergei Leiferkus and Roderick Williams performed the complete original solo voice and piano songs of Vaughan Williams in celebration of the 50th anniversary of his death, and rare songs and cycles by Rimsky Korsakov.
